Best laser engraver for tumblers

Tumblers are one of the most popular laser products. What matters most is rotary support, enough clearance under the laser, and power for clean coating removal.

Powder-coated vs bare stainless

On a powder-coated tumbler, the laser burns away the coating and exposes bright steel. Every machine on this list does that with a rotary. On a bare stainless tumbler, a blue diode can't make a reliable mark on its own. Use a marking spray, or choose an infrared-capable machine. See can a diode laser engrave metal.

Setup checklist

  • A rotary compatible with your machine
  • A riser if the cup doesn't fit under the module
  • Rotary mode on in the software, with the right diameter
  • Safety glasses: exposed steel reflects

Frequently asked questions

Can any diode laser engrave tumblers?
Any diode laser with a rotary attachment can engrave powder-coated tumblers, because the laser only has to remove the coating. Bare stainless tumblers need a marking spray or an infrared or fiber laser.
What rotary do I need?
Roller rotaries suit straight tumblers and are easy to use. Chuck rotaries grip tapered and handled cups better. Check the rotary is compatible with your machine and that the tumbler fits under the laser, often with a riser kit.
How much power do I need for tumblers?
10 W works, more power is faster. Coating removal benefits from higher power with a fine line interval.
